

Cloncurry – Friendly Heart of the Great North West
Few places can claim to be as influential in shaping Australia’s history as Cloncurry; birthplace of the Royal Flying Doctor Service and destination of the first Qantas flight, it is a town that celebrates outback life, the true Australian way.
Spend a couple of days in the ‘Curry’ and don’t miss out on seeing some of the most popular attractions:
- See both museums in town, the Cloncurry Unearthed Museum and John Flynn Place with a Cloncurry Pass that is a discounted ticket that allows you entry to both museums.
- Explore the shaded parklands and outdoor machinery display at Mary Kathleen Park, Flinders Highway.
- Take a 4WD historical adventure with the Ballara Mining Heritage Trail. Pick up a map and brochure from the Cloncurry Unearthed Visitor Information Centre.
- Visit in July/August to experience action packed weekends full of extreme sports, entertainment and fun for the whole family at one of our many major community events.
- Take the Heritage Walk and stroll through town.
- Relax at Chinaman Creek Dam with a BBQ or try your hand at fishing.
- Reflect back to a bygone era, at the Afghan, Chinese and Pioneer Cemeteries.
Cloncurry hosts many unique outback experiences and events throughout the year:
- Cloncurry and District Show in June – “The Best in the West!” offers a fun-filled weekend for all ages with horse events, sideshow alley, live entertainment, markets and much more!
- Rockhana Gem and Mineral Festival in July – prepare to be dazzled with the displays, sales and activities showcasing the wealth of minerals and crystals in the region.
- Cloncurry Stockman’s Challenge in July – a true blue festival with competitors displaying their horsemanship skills.
- Quamby Rodeo in July – a true outback rodeo event with competitors of various abilities trying their hand at Bull Riding, Bronc Riding as well as timed events such as Steer Wrestling and the Barrel Race.
- The Curry Merry Muster Festival in August – another favourite activity with a street parade, live music and lots of competitive rodeo action!
